Maxon is boxing clever with intelligent compact drives

Maxon is boxing clever with intelligent compact drives
Ever eager to make life easier for designers, Maxon Motor has come up with a 'box of tricks' that combines a motor, a sensor and a controller into one unit - packaged in a neat, compact, aluminium casing. It's called the Maxon compact drive MCD EPOS.

The controllers are taken from Maxon's EPOS (Easy POsitioning System) range, which has proved tremendously popular since its recent introduction, while the motors and encoders are tried-and-tested, off-the-shelf Maxon products whose performance and reliability are well established. Together they form a highly dynamic, space-saving, maintenance-free positioning drive with excellent functionality and great efficiency. The system delivers a maximum output of 60 watts. One of the most attractive features of the boxed MCD EPOS is its quick start-up procedure. It arrives optimally tuned and ready for use, and the need for wiring is minimised thanks to its facility for direct connection to a CANopen bus or an SPS controller. A programmable version (MCD EPOS P) is also available, equipped with a processor and memory for standalone operation. Both versions come complete with all the necessary software, free of charge.

Applications for these extremely flexible compact drives will be found in the likes of automation, robotics and laboratory equipment.
