Modular EUSAS motor meets highest quality demands

Modular EUSAS motor meets highest quality demands WEG and its subsidiary Watt Drive recently launched the new modular EUSAS (Europe, USA and Asia) motor. The motor will be available as an integral motor for gearboxes and as standard induction motor with mounting positions B3, B4 and B14. The motors are initially available in two-pole, four-pole and six-pole versions with IEC 63 to IEC 160 frame sizes and power ratings from 0,12 to 18.5 kW. Frame sizes from 180 to 315 will be available in the near future. The EUSAS motor is the first to combine the energy-efficient WEG motor technology with Watt Drive's tried and tested MAS modular gear unit system. Thanks to their wide voltage range and easy voltage reconfiguration in the terminal box, these system motors can be used worldwide at a wide variety of mains voltages (100 V to 690 V) and frequencies (50 Hz and 60 Hz). The combination of high efficiency and flexible use makes the EUSAS motors a future-proof, energy-efficient drive solution for a broad range of applications.

The EUSAS motor has a specially designed wide-range winding, with each motor's winding divided into two partial windings with a total of twelve leads - providing a large range of wiring options on the nine-bolt terminal board. This allows the motor to be wired for up to four different voltage level (Y, delta, double Y or double delta) configurations, which makes it highly versatile for the world market. Until now, induction motors have been severely limited in terms of voltage configuration options due to their winding design. A separate motor version has been necessary for each voltage level deviating from the IEC 60038 standard, resulting in considerable additional cost and longer delivery times, especially for smaller quantities. The special winding design of the EUSAS motor puts an end to this limitation and makes the motor a versatile all-in-one solution.

The motors are furthermore optimally suited for operation with electronic speed control. Thanks to the 87/100/120 Hz voltage- frequency characteristic curve, they can be driven by a frequency inverter with no need for special winding. The unique stator winding allows them to operate at double power in frequency inverter operation, with the motor power rising to twice the nominal rating. To enable this power increase without overheating, the speed of the EUSAS motor is doubled leaving its torque characteristic constant. This allows the drive to work at a higher rotational speed, so that higher output power can be achieved at the same magnetic flux level without overloading. This only requires the user to reconfigure the winding connections on the terminal board and adjust the control parameters of the frequency inverter.

The new EUSAS motor is based on the tried and tested modular MAS system from Watt Drive and is specifically designed for the mounting of a wide variety of motor modules. The available mechanical motor options include spring-loaded brakes, encoder systems, forced ventilation, backstops and alternative connection technology for the terminal box. The motor modules can be equipped quickly and easily according to customer requirements, either separately or in combination. This increases application flexibility and ensures short delivery times.

EUSAS motors are available in foot-mounted and flange-mounted executions with the following flange options: B5 standard flange, B5 square flange for integral motors for gearboxes, and B14 flange. Models with frame sizes up to and including IEC 100 can operate in the following voltage ranges: 220-240 V (D), 110-120 V (DD), 380-420 V (Y) and 190-210 V (YY). Models with frame sizes of IEC 112 and above can operate in the voltage ranges 380-420 V (D), 190-210 V (DD), 660-690 V (Y) and 330-365 V (YY), in each case at 50 or 60 Hz.

The standard characteristics of the EUSAS motors are a protection class IP 55, a cooling standard of IC 411 and thermal class F. However, the nominal temperature rise of the motor corresponds to thermal class B. This provides a safety margin for overloads or increased winding life. When operating at the full scope of thermal class F, the motors are suitable for ambient temperatures from-30 to +60°C. Tropical insulation is also available. The motors are UL, CSA and Gost certified.
