Profile technology and compatible modules

Profile technology and compatible modules Tracking the changes in industry over the last 25 years, and addressing the challenges of the future of machine building.

Congratulations to Industrial Technology on reaching their 25th Anniversary. The last 25 years have seen some huge changes in the world we all operate in. The same can be said for the mk Technology Group; the last 25 years have marked many significant changes in the market places we operate in, and the evolving demands of our customers. We have introduced numerous new products, and technology has had a profound effect on the way we communicate with our customers and suppliers.

Although Maschinenbau Kitz has been providing profile technology for over 40 years, it was 25 years ago that mk became an international company, setting up its first subsidiary in the USA. Many subsidiaries followed including a presence in the UK in the form of mk Profile Systems Ltd since the year 2000.

mk now offer a range of compatible modules for factory automation by utilising their four product groups: Profile Technology, Conveyor Technology, Factory Equipment and Linear Motion. But it is our system profile 2000, created in 1982, that is the basis for today's modular profile technology system with more than 250 profile cross sections. mk built their first conveyor in 1976 but since 1982, our own aluminium modular profile system has formed the basis for all conveyor systems.

In 2005 the first curved belt conveyor was introduced, and in 2009 mk developed additional conveyors made of stainless steel. 2011 was a real landmark year for us when in September we produced our 100,000th conveyor! We now offer more than 20 standardised conveyor systems, which can be adapted to transport almost any product and operational environment to serve the individual needs and requirements of our customers.

In 1991, mk's 25th anniversary, Factory Equipment and Linear Motion were added to our product offering and the following year sees us win awards for design. Since 2003, mk's operational processes have been certified by TUV Rheinland in accordance with DIN EN ISO 9001:2000, which officially certifies the reliability of procedures within mk.

As growth continued, the mk Technology Group was formed as the umbrella brand encompassing both the Maschinenbau Kitz headquarters and all of its subsidiaries and sales partners worldwide - including of course, mk Profile Systems here in the UK. Today, mk has more than 300 employees worldwide and the production area in Troisdorf, is more than 15,000m2. mk is one of the leading suppliers of mechanical modules and components for factory automation.

Here in the UK, mk Profile Systems continue to supply profile and factory equipment directly to our customers, who are based in the UK and Ireland, out of our Nottingham based facilities, and are looking to expand the production facility later in the year. We continually strive to improve the service and product offering we provide to our customers. Over the last few years we have seen a huge shift in the way our customers communicate with us, with technology playing an ever increasing role.

Surprisingly, we still receive the occasional faxed order and there will always be those people who prefer to pick up the phone and speak to a 'real' person, all of which we are more than happy to accommodate. More commonly though, orders and enquiries now arrive via email, and traffic to our website is always on the increase.

In the last few months we have even set up an mk Profile Systems Facebook page which is another way to communicate with our customer base. Via Facebook we can provide our customers with market and product information and even videos which give a good visual representation of the capabilities of the mk products and how to get the best out of them. We can see that social media is going to play an increasingly important role in business over the coming few years.
