Wireless switches are self-powered

Wireless switches are self-powered Steute has taken wireless position switches to a new level with a new generation of devices that produce their own operational power, and so dispense with the need for cables, batteries or light. The result is a true ‘fit and forget’ solution. Steute’s solution to the problem of powering the devices is a new type of energy generator which generates energy from the movement of the plunger, making the new EF95 switches completely self sufficient. The products work by converting the kinetic energy of the moving plunger in electrical energy by means of an electro-dynamic generator. Steute’s engineers have succeeded in miniaturising an energy generator in such a way that it now has the same dimensions as a conventional switch insert. Essential for this operation is the innovative EnOcean radio technology, which works with an extremely low energy requirement. This means only very little transmitting energy is needed. Nevertheless, Steute claims the range of the signal is wider than that of alternative wireless technologies in industrial automation.
