Wyko saves Thames Water both time and money

Wyko Industrial Services has installed a 21ton, 1350kVA generator at the Basingstoke Sewage Treatment Works as part of its maintenance contract with Thames Water. An unremarkable event until the organisational feat is considered which involved a team of engineers using one 180ton crane to reach the remote installation platform. Despite the cost of the project, Thames Water saved time, money and resources by relying on Wykos comprehensive generator monitoring, maintenance, supply and overhaul service, which guarantees that no pollution is caused in the event of power failure at any of its 400-plus installations. "Our condition monitoring, maintenance and generator supply contract covers 400 units in the Thames Valley," explains Colin Aslett, site service manager at Wyko Maidenhead. "As part of our ongoing maintenance program, we are constantly visiting sites and advising Thames Water of generators which require replacement or reconditioning due to age, or have become incorrectly sized because of site changes. As part of this program an existing generator at Basingstoke sewage works was identified as needing upgrading to cope with the proposed site load, a job that resulted in Wyko having to call on a number of group services."
