Rotor Clip says it can handle bearing pre-loads with its MST-series of Truwave wave springs. These single-turn metric wave springs are available in sizes from 16mm to 170mm and are ideal for short deflection applications. They offer a number of advantages for bearing retention. Overhead assembly is possible, since the wave spring can lightly grip the inside of the bearing bore.
The wave spring can be installed automatically via a tapered mandrel similar to the automatic installation of retaining rings. There is a characteristically even load/force with small tolerances due to even, sinusoidal waves in the spring design. There is no radial jamming, since spring ends are able to overlap and do not push against one another. There are no tooling costs for special sizes, the wave spring is self-centering in bearing bore.
