Tailor made damping units added to gas spring range

Camloc is adding a range of hydraulic damping units to its expanding portfolio of high-quality gas struts, springs, brackets and end fittings.

>There are two primary types of hinges. A free fit hinge has little to no friction or drag when the latch or handle is rotated. Hinge components are 'free' to rotate independent of one another. A friction fit hinge requires interference to prevent free rotation of components relative to one another. Depending on design intent, resistance can vary from a slight drag to a value sufficient to maintain the fixed position of components anywhere in their full range of rotation.

>Camloc Motion Control reports that its new Cam-Shoc Dampers are self-contained, maintenance-free, hydraulic damping units. They are designed and engineered to absorb, meter and control kinetic energy with the movement of the piston through the oil creating the damping characteristic.

>The range, available in a variety of sizes, includes standard oil-filled dampers, oil-filled dampers with separator piston, through dampers, gassed emulsion filled dampers, gassed dampers with separator piston, and military blast mitigation dampers to STANAG 4569

>The Cam-Shoc range provides damping solutions suitable for arresting and controlling a wide variety of applications - from a few kilos in weight, such as lids, cabinets and ladder racks on vehicles - through much heavier weights, such as armoured doors and specialist blast mitigation solutions for use on military vehicles and other highly demanding applications. Available in carbon steel and stainless steel, these compactly-designed, reliable units operate at a temperature range from -40°C to +100°C, making them highly durable and maintenance-free.

>"Generally, dampers are designed to influence the characteristics of movement by providing the controlled stoppage of a weight or lid, for example," explains Camloc engineering manager, Matt Warne. "With our new Cam-Shoc Dampers, we'll work closely with our customers to either choose the most appropriate damper for their specific application, or even custom-design the units to achieve their particular damping or mounting needs."

>Using the latest CAD/CAE techniques, Camloc Motion Control's expert design engineers provide this highly-praised and sought-after service, creating and manufacturing prototypes within an impressive 14 days for testing on applications.

>"We recognise that no two applications are the same, so it's important we provide our customers with this bespoke service," adds Matt Warne. "Whether they're used in velocity control, deceleration control or momentum change, we'll choose or create a high-quality Cam-Shoc Damper that will meet our customers' exact requirements."
