Wireless position sensor range

Steute has developed a new wireless sensor specifically for a defined application within the field of intralogistics. The RF RW-NET wireless position sensor detects whether a small parts container is positioned on the roller conveyor of, for example, a Kanban rack, and transmits a corresponding signal to the superordinate control system via access points in the sWave.NET wireless network.

The actuator used here is an oversized rocker. An integrated non-contact position sensor monitors the status of this rocker. The angle of inclination and the switching hysteresis which determine when a signal is triggered can both be set and adjusted in the sWave.NET software. Using a well designed and constructed latching element, the position sensor can be mounted and fixed to the roller conveyors or racks of all leading manufacturers in just a few easy steps and without any need for tools. A specially developed tension clip means that the sensor can be used universally.

In practice, the wireless position sensors available for different frequencies (868, 915 and 922MHz) are predominantly used to monitor the occupancy of roller conveyors in rack systems. When the last container is removed, the sensor transmits a signal to the wireless receiver and requests replenishment. Alternatively, signals can be transmitted in stages (‘traffic light’ principle). In this case, additional wireless sensors at the same rack level detect the removal of the third last and second last containers.

Steute reports that the impetus for this new development came from the large demand for switchgear which can be integrated in E-Kanban racks. Previously, Steute had met this demand from its standard range of sWave.NET wireless position switches and light sensors. With the RF RW-NET, a device is now available which was developed for precisely this application and which offers not only technical functionality, but also commercial benefits: this wireless position sensor was constructed with cost considerations firmly in mind. It is suitable not only for E-Kanban racks, but also for occupancy monitoring in conveyor systems for example.
